Island of Lake Victoria 2017

We love the idea of giving back to the community through sharing ourselves and our resources. Every time you stay at the Apartment at 217, we contribute a percentage of the profit to a non-profit organization.

We are inspired by living in a country that encourages helping others. When we travel to other countries and come back home, we are reminded again…to be thankful for all the resources God has put within our hands.

Just being able to turn on the water and drink it becomes a place of thanksgiving. Our world gets much bigger when we look beyond our family and community and get a different perspective on life.

We want generosity and gratitude to be hallmarks of who we are as a business.

This is a place for sharing ideas and encouraging one another to “Do Life Big” as we invite you to join us in this life journey of empowering and helping others. Our business participates by giving back a percentage of all profits to help others. It may be through buying food in Africa to help a family, distributing school supplies in our community, or packing Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes. It could be sharing with children in Nicaragua, working with an orphanage, or providing medical care in Uganda. We want to love God and love people, and seize whatever opportunities we can to impact our world.

2020: Dewayne and I continue to travel with a mission team from Dorrisville to Jinja, Uganda each January. Our team works with the people on the Islands of Lake Victoria. We hire a Ugandan medical staff, (doctor and nurses) to travel with us to the islands to help the people receive medical care. The communities we serve have no electricity and limited resources. We work with men, women, and children. The medical team is always excellent and we share with men and women how Jesus makes a difference in our lives, no matter where we live. What is Uganda like for us…check out the video below! And yes, we are planning the next trip in January.

One of our favorite projects to reach families around the world is Operation Christmas Child. Thru the gift of simple items in a shoe box, children and families are being transformed. It begins in our homes and spreads to the far corners of the earth. You will see OCC shoeboxes under the Fall and Christmas tree in the apartment if you visit during these seasons. We have packed OCC boxes since our children were young and now have the joy of watching our grand-children get involved! Our church sends a team to Atlanta, Georgia  in December to help process the shoe boxes and put them in crates for shipping. Here’s a video of DBC’s  OCC collection and trip down to work in the Operation Christmas Child Processing Center. It is always a delight to work with such a great ministry!
